Caring for Skin, Caring for You: A Guide to Skin Health

Xerosis (dry skin)

Xerosis, or excessively dry skin, is common, especially in older adults or during winter when humidity levels drop. The skin may feel rough, scaly, and itchy, often leading to discomfort and scratching. Without proper care, xerosis can persist and worsen over time. Keeping the skin moisturized and protected can help restore hydration and soothe irritation.

How To Treat Xerosis:

Clean it: Using a mild, dye-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free gentle skin clean cleanser like Skincentry No-Rinse Foam Cleanser. Avoid scrubbing and pat dry, do not rub the skin dry. It is also important to avoid long and hot showers as that can strip the skin of its natural oils.

Moisturize Regularly: Apply a moisturizer immediately after bathing and at least twice a day. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, or urea, that help maintain the moisture in the skin.

Fungal Infections (athlete’s foot & jock itch)

Fungal infections, also known as mycoses, are diseases caused by fungi. They commonly affect the skin, hair, and nails, but can also involve other parts of the body. Symptoms can vary depending on the type of infection and the location on the body, but often include itching, redness, scaly skin, and rashes.

How To Treat Fungal Infections:

Topical antifungal medications such as creams, ointments, and sprays are often used for superficial fungal skin infections. Products that contain 2% Miconazole Nitrate as an active ingredient are commonly used for athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis) and superficial skin infections
caused by yeast (candida albicans).

Intertrigo (between skin folds)

Intertrigo happens when skin rubs against skin, creating friction in warm, moist areas. It’s most common in skin folds—under the breasts, in the groin, between the buttocks, or beneath belly folds. Keeping these areas clean, dry, and well-aerated can help prevent irritation and discomfort.

How To Treat Intertrigo:

Clean it: Using a mild, dye-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free gentle skin clean cleanser like Skincentry No-Rinse Foam Cleanser. Avoid scrubbing and pat dry, do not rub the skin dry.

Reduce friction: apply a barrier cream that contains either dimethicones or zinc oxide. If a fungal infection is present, (such as red, itchy, circular rash within and area of healthy-looking skin, or that spread with patches that might blister and ooze) Apply Skincentry Antifungal Powder in skin folds or moist areas.
