HEALING STARTS WITH EDUCATION

Caring for Wounds, Caring for You: A Comprehensive Resource

1st Degree Burns (Sunburn)

For a 1st degree burn or sunburn, the damage is limited to the outermost layer of skin—the epidermis. You may notice redness and tenderness, but with gentle care, your skin should start feeling better within a few days. Most mild burns heal completely in 3–5 days without leaving a scar. Keeping the area moisturized with Skincentry™ Moisturizer  can help soothe discomfort and support the healing process.

2nd Degree Burns

A second-degree burn goes deeper than the surface, affecting both the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and the layer beneath it (dermis). The skin may blister, appear glossy pink, and feel moist or weepy. Pain can be intense, but with proper care, healing typically happens within 2–3 weeks. Some scarring is possible, so keeping the area clean, protected, and moisturized can help support the skin’s natural healing process. Use a sterile, NuVeria Labs™ Bordered Silicone Foam Dressings to cover the burn and help prevent infection.

Abrasions (Road Rash)

An abrasion—sometimes called a scrape or graze—happens when the skin rubs against a rough surface, like pavement in the case of road rash. This type of wound wears away the outer layer of skin (epidermis), making it look raw and feel tender. While abrasions don’t usually bleed much, they can be painful since the nerve endings are exposed. Keeping the area clean and covered with a NuVeria Labs™ Bordered Silicone Foam Dressings  can help protect it as it heals.

Blood Blisters

Caring for a blood blister gently is key to preventing infection and helping it heal. It’s best to leave the blister intact—popping it can increase the risk of infection and slow down recovery. The fluid inside acts as a natural cushion, protecting the skin underneath as it heals. Keeping the area clean and covered can help it heal more comfortably. Once ruptured, cover the blister with a NuVeria Labs™ Bordered Silicone Foam Dressing to protect it and change the bandage daily or when it gets wet or dirty.

Lacerations

A laceration is a deep cut or tear in the skin, often exposing the layer beneath the surface, known as the dermis. These wounds can have clean, straight edges or be more jagged, depending on the cause. Sometimes, the skin around the wound may appear soft and white due to excess moisture, a condition called maceration. Keep the wound clean and covered with NuVeria Labs™ Bordered Silicone Foam Dressings can help support healing and protect the surrounding skin.
